10 Benefits Of Teamwork

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” Michael Jordan

We all have those moments when we would like to be alone. And maybe you do get a lot accomplished when working on your own. But when we look at the complete picture, teams are able to do more, solve bigger problems and complete processes in a much quicker time. But this also means that teams must work together.

  • They must follow directions.
  • “Ball hogs” are not allowed.

Here at BodHD, we know the power of teamwork. After all, it is a team that ensures BodHD runs smoothly.

I have decided to go through the many benefits of teamwork. This can help you explain to any of your recruits who are assuming they can do better as “lone rangers.”

I know this article will help you, so feel free to share it with all your team members as well as other people. Because we are all a member of a team in one form or another.

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” H.E. Luccock

#1 Benefit Of Teamwork: More Desirable Outcomes

The fact is, a team brings more experience and resources to the table. Challenges and roadblocks are diminished because of the reduction of risks when just 1 person is working on the tasks.

“It is the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) that those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.” Charles Darwin

#2 Benefit Of Teamwork: Creativity Comes Alive

When we work alone, sometimes we can get into a “blank” mode. Or even worse, we can have days when our creativity is non-existent. But when we are working in team mode, even though we might be at a blank, another team member will do or say something that will awaken or even bring our creativity out of the grave.

“You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins.” Jim Stovall

#3 Benefit Of Teamwork: Higher Production Output

When you have 2 or more collaborating on a task or project, studies have shown the work gets completed faster and usually with higher quality.

This has even been shown in factory settings. Even when the job could be covered by one person, tests have been done whereas a second person is integrated into the process (as long as the work area would handle more than 1), and production output is consistently higher as well as quality.

“Individual commitment to a group effort — that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince Lombardi

#4 Benefit Of Teamwork: Shared Responsibilities

Stress is hard on us emotionally, mentally and worst of all, physically. Medical professionals have determined that stress is one of the leading causes of diseases and even death. And, when it comes to trying to hold all the responsibilities, that 1 person has too much stress. It can lead to many problems that just are not worth it.

Using a teamwork approach, responsibilities are spread across the whole team which lightens the stress load (no pun intended) with every person.

“No matter how brilliant your mind or strategy, if you’re playing a solo game, you’ll always lose out to a team.” Reid Hoffman

#5 Benefit Of Teamwork: Morale Boost For All

When a team is working properly, each member will feel a sense of ownership. They will feel the less stress I mentioned in #4 which will allow them to feel in control of the processes they are working on.

The result will be a huge morale boost.

Team members will go home bragging about their wonderful day instead of being depressed and wishing tomorrow will not come.

“Great things in business are never done by one person; they’re done by a team of people.” Steve Jobs

#6 Benefit Of Teamwork: Improved Communication Skills For All

Teamwork requires both listening and speaking. It is the only way a team will work. When a person is working alone, even if they have great communication skills, they are likely to forget some of those skills. Because communication needs consistent practice to maintain those skills.

The communication skills for team members will grow because they are always practicing them.

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” Ryunosuke Satoro

#7 Benefit Of Teamwork: An Ocean Of Ideas

It goes hand-in-hand with the creativity benefit, but I had to give this one its own place.

Have you ever tried to brainstorm ideas by yourself? It really does not work very well, does it?

When you put several people around a table taking turns “spilling” their thoughts and ideas, it is simply amazing what can come out.

“The best teamwork comes from men who are working independently toward one goal in unison.” James Cash Penney

#8 Benefit Of Teamwork: Support System

Just watch football team and a player makes a mistake; yes the coach may scold, but a teammate pats him on the butt and tells him it will be okay.

Or the basketball player that hasn’t played the majority of the game and comes in because another player fouls out; the player who fouled out tells him, “You can do it.” The team is 2 points down with 7 seconds left and because of the support, he swishes a 3 pointer.

Yes, support!

Team members support each other.

“For organizations seriously committed to making teamwork a cultural reality, I’m convinced that ‘the right people’ are the ones who have three virtues in common – humility, hunger, and people smarts.” Patrick Lencioni

#9 Benefit Of Teamwork: A Proprietary Mixture Of Strengths

Each person on a team has strengths and weaknesses. With proper leadership and management, those strengths can be blended together to form a superstar team that will be hard to beat.

A key here is leadership… It needs to be a leadership that can put the strength and weakness pieces into a perfect balance. That means the leadership needs to know the traits of each team member so they can place them in their most competent position.

“You can take a team of absolute all-stars in terms of their native abilities, but if they are not working together, they are much less effective than a team where there is less native ability but a higher degree of teamwork and cohesion.” Stewart Butterfield

#10 Benefit Of Teamwork: Attracts Other Talent

Everyone wants to be on the best team; we learned that in our early years when we hoped to get picked to the best team and whined if we didn’t. But, we go back to #8… There was always one on that second-rated team who would give support and we still felt the power of teamwork.

“We can beat them!”

Yes, support kept us up and we played like winners even if we lost.

“My work is all about adventure and teamwork in some of the most inhospitable jungles, mountains and deserts on the planet. If you aren’t able to look after yourself and each other, then people die.” Bear Grylls
